The Senate passed a bipartisan bill today to help combat a heroin and painkiller epidemic devastating communities across the country. U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., applauded the legislation which would provide new opportunities for law enforcement, drug prevention, education, treatment and recovery programs.

“Too many families in Wyoming and across the country are seeing their health and welfare devastated by the abuse and addiction of prescription drugs and heroin,” Enzi said. “The legislation will provide for a comprehensive and strategic approach to tackle this terrible epidemic. I am glad both sides of the aisle could come together once again to agree on policies in order to tackle this urgent problem.”

According to the Wyoming Department of Health, Wyoming has the 15th highest prescription drug overdose mortality rate per capita in the United States.

The bipartisan legislation passed the Senate with a vote of 94 to 1.
