Today, I took to the House floor to urge my Republican colleagues to use this last week of the 115th Congress to pass #SavannasAct. I introduced this bill to honor Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind, a 22-year-old pregnant member of the Spirit Lake Tribe who was brutally murdered and had her unborn child stolen from her. It would help address the crisis of murdered and missing Native American women by closing the gap of information sharing between tribal, local, and federal law enforcement agencies. Senator Heidi Heitkamp’s companion legislation has already been passed by the Senate unanimously. It is shameful that there is one member standing in the way of justice and being able to better protect Native women and girls.
