The Senate Finance Committee began consideration today of a new proposal for funding the nation’s highways and bridges. Two years ago, during consideration of the same topic, a provision was snuck in that took away a large portion of Wyoming’s Abandoned Mine Land (AML) money. U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., has been working tirelessly ever since to get it back.

When the committee met today, Enzi received commitments from both Chairman Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Ranking Member Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, to resolve the AML issue after Enzi highlighted the importance of the millions owed to Wyoming.

Enzi also discussed the need to stop the budget gimmicks, accounting tricks and raids on unrelated revenues that have been used to keep the highway trust fund temporarily afloat.
