Congressional App Challenge

I'm pleased to announce my office will be participating in the 2017 Congressional App Challenge. In 2015, Members of House of Representatives held its very first Congressional App Challenge to inspire, engage, and enncourage students around the nation to become more involved with STEM activities and explore what's to offer in computer science education. This challenge is open to students in high school and below, regardless of previous coding experience. All students in New Mexico's Second Congressional District are encouraged to participate even if they've never coded before. Students will compete by creating and exhibiting their software application, or “app,” for mobile, tablet or computer devices.

Key Dates

There is no final date for registration. Students who wish to participate must sign up and submit their app with demostration video by 12:00 PM ET on November 1, 2017. 

Winners will be announced during Computer Science Education Week, or sometime in December 2017.

Student Eligibility

Age: There is no minimum age. The Challenge is open to students K-12. Students must not have graduated from high school to participate. 

Location: Students must be from NM-02 to compete in Congressman Pearce's Congressional District. 

Teams: Students can compete as individuals, or in teams of up to four (4) members. 

  • Any team with more than four (4) students is not eligible to compete.
  • At least two (2) teammates on any team must live/attend school in the same Congressional District.

Submit your App

Submissions must be original. Each submission will be reviewed and evaluated by District Judges based on quality of idea, including creativity and originality, implementation of the idea, including user experience and design, and demostrated excellence of coding and programming skills. Student submissions will be judged by a panel of local judges. The app of the winning student or team in each participating Congressional district will be featured on the CongressionalAppChallenge.us website and displayed in a U.S. Capitol exhibit in Washington, D.C.
