As the U.S. Government’s global hunger and food security initiative, we’re addressing the root causes of poverty, hunger and malnutrition and transforming lives.

To achieve this, Feed the Future works hand-in-hand with partner countries to develop their agriculture sectors and break the vicious cycle of poverty and hunger. We are helping people feed themselves and creating important opportunities for a new generation of young people, while building a more stable world.

To make progress, we’re striving for a meaningful, sustained impact in areas that have the most potential for sustained growth. We currently focus our efforts in 12 target countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean.

Featured Country Bangladesh

Bangladesh has great potential for agriculture-led growth and food security. Rice production has tripled over the last 30 years. The extreme ($1.25 per day) poverty rate fell from about 59 percent in 2000 to about 43 percent in 2010. Forty-eight percent of Bangladeshis are employed in the agriculture sector and a large majority of the rural population is involved in fisheries.
