Legislation

Johnny has always worked under the philosophy of "people before politics." First elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2004 after serving three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, Johnny has used his 40-plus successful years of experience in the real estate industry to succeed in the Senate. Johnny is the only senator to chair two committees: the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and the Senate Select Committee on Ethics. From tax relief to homeland security, Johnny's work in Congress reflects the values and interests of Georgia's families. In 2016, Johnny become the first Georgia Republican elected to a third term in the U.S. Senate.

In the Senate, Johnny has successfully worked to:

• Overhaul and reform the tax code to improve our economy and bring relief to families and small businesses;
• Provide stronger support for veterans, their families and caregivers, including health care and education benefits;
• Strengthen our U.S. military and bolster homeland security;
• Improve our schools through local choice and accountability;
• Ensure a level playing field for American workers and consumers in international trade;
• Improve infrastructure and develop our Georgia ports;
• Provide increased choices and lower the cost of health insurance for families and small businesses; and
• Improve healthcare outcomes for our seniors and those with rare diseases.

Committee Assignments

Johnny is the only senator to serve as chairman of two committees for the 115th Congress: the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and the Senate Select Committee on Ethics.

As chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, Isakson has led major reforms focused on improving the quality and timeliness of care at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health facilities across the country and on strengthening accountability for VA employees who commit misconduct. Johnny has served on the Ethics Committee since 2007, including as chairman of the committee since 2015 and as vice chair of the committee from 2009 until 2014.

Johnny also serves on three additional Senate committees that have jurisdiction over education, health care, foreign policy, labor and job training, international trade and taxes. His committee assignments are:
