Congressman Ralph Abraham

Representing the 5th District of Louisiana

Health Care

As a rural doctor, I’ve seen the problems our broken health care system poses to Americans. Obamacare made changes that have been nothing short of a complete failure: people losing their insurance and being forced onto the exchanges, increased uncertainty, wasted taxpayer dollars, and hiked premiums. This is why I will vote to repeal Obamacare on every level at every opportunity. I believe government takeover of health care hurts more Americans than it helps. Along with increased uncertainty, the issues of health insurance company bailouts, premium hikes, abortion coverage, the individual mandate, and others are truly worrisome.

Our communities are facing another health care crisis in the form of the opioid epidemic. In June, the House passed H.R. 6, SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act. This bill, targeted at supplying communities with resources to combat the opioid crisis, is the most significant congressional action against a drug crisis in history. Additionally, the House has provided $16 million in critical resources and funds to Louisiana in order to fight this epidemic.

As one of 15 doctors in Congress, I will continue to use my knowledge and experience to reform our health care system, returning decision making from bureaucrats to patients, and keeping the government out of the doctor’s office.
