Congressman Ralph Abraham

Representing the 5th District of Louisiana

Service Academy Nominations

Thank you for your interest in the U.S. Service Academies. Each year Congressman Abraham has the privilege of nominating a limited number of young men and women from Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District to the U.S. Service Academies. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

Each candidate must meet the following requirements by July 1 the year of admission:

·      Age: at least 17 years old, but not older than 23

·      Citizenship: U.S. citizen

·      Marital Status: unmarried, not pregnant, no legal obligation to support children

·      Skill/Fitness: meet medical and physical requirements of the academy

All candidates must meet the minimum admission standards set by the academy. Although many of the requirements are similar, each academy operates under its own guidelines and can answer specific questions regarding admission standards. Please contact the Service Academy of your preference to establish a pre-candidate file:

Applicants should pursue all available avenues of nomination including: Vice Presidential, Senatorial and Congressional. Children of career and/or retired military personnel may also seek a Presidential nomination. It is best to apply for nominations at least one year prior to your desired date of entry.
