Langevin Statement on House Republicans Closing Trump Collusion Investigation

Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI), a senior member of the House Armed Services and Homeland Security Committees and four-term veteran of the House Intelligence Committee, issued the following statement after Republicans announced they were ending the House’s sole investigation into President Trump’s possible collusion with Russia:

“Today’s decision by House Republicans to protect the President and ignore the findings of the Intelligence Community is a shocking and brazen political move. At a time when Special Counsel Robert Mueller is regularly announcing new indictments and guilty pleas, the idea that the Committee would simply close up shop is absurd. Whether the President colluded with the Russians during or after his campaign remains an open question. What is not in doubt is the Intelligence Community’s findings that the Russians made a concerted effort to undermine our democracy in the 2016 election and that their efforts largely favored then-candidate Trump. We need to send a strong message that election interference will not be tolerated, not ignore the facts because they are politically inconvenient.”
