Langevin Statement on Trump’s Misguided Pro-Coal Energy Plan

Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI), the Energy Task Force Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, issued the following statement on the Trump Administration’s rollback of the Clean Power Plan (CPP) that set limits on power plant emissions:

“The President’s decision to rollback the Clean Power Plan displays a stunning disregard for the health and safety of our communities.  This pro-coal energy plan will not only put our planet at risk due to the increased threat of climate change, it will put families at risk due to the increased potential for exposure to toxic pollution. In fact, the EPA estimates that the President’s plan could cause as many as 1,400 premature deaths per year by 2030.  Instead of taking steps to preserve our planet for future generations, the President is prioritizing the interests of corporate polluters over the most basic needs of the American public.  This new policy will cause irrevocable harm to the health of the public and the planet, and I will do everything in my power to fight it.”
