U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., introduced a bill today that would transfer land in Powell, Wyoming from the Bureau of Land Management to the Powell Recreation District. The land currently houses the city’s shooting range. According to Enzi, everyone involved agrees that the current use of the land as a shooting range is the best use possible and should be turned over to the recreation district, who currently operate the site.

“The people of Powell have been running the gun range for years and have a better understanding of how to manage the land than anyone in Washington could,” said Enzi. “Those who use the land would clearly be the best managers of the land.”

The land transfer bill unanimously passed the Senate in the last Congress but time ran out before the House could act. Senator Barrasso is a cosponsor of the legislation.
