Congressman Pete Sessions

Representing the 32nd District of Texas

Jobs

As American families and small businesses continue to struggle in our current economy, I am committed to pro-growth solutions that will help get the American people back to work. I believe the best jobs program is economic growth. This Administration has given us  42 consecutive months of unemployment above 8 percent, the longest period of high unemployment since the Great Depression. I am committed to free-marketplace policies that will boost employment and create job growth and economic prosperity for all.

The tax system must be simplified. Government spending and regulation must be reined in. American companies must be more competitive in the world market, and we must be aggressive in promoting U.S. products abroad and securing open markets for them. A federal-State-private partnership must invest in the nation’s infrastructure: roads, bridges, airports, ports, and water systems, among others. Federal training programs have to be overhauled and made relevant for the workplace of the twenty-first century. Removing artificial government barriers and red tape will preserve and strengthen Americans’ ability to build, grow, and compete with anyone.

This Congress, House Republicans have put forward a number of innovative, pro-growth solutions to jumpstart the engine of our economy. Here are some of the key policies I support:

H.R. 22, Hire More Heroes Act of 2015
Makes it easier for small businesses to hire more of our nation’s heroes by providing an exemption to Obamacare’s employer mandate for veterans with existing health coverage.

H.R. 37, Promoting Job Creation and Reducing Small Business Burdens Act
Reduces federal regulatory burdens and helps small and emerging businesses gain to access capital and create new jobs.

H.R. 3, Keystone XL Pipeline Act
Approves construction and maintenance of the Keystone XL Pipeline, along with the thousands of jobs that would result.

H.R. 161, Natural Gas Pipeline Permitting Reform Act
Promotes domestic natural gas production by expediting the federal review process for natural gas pipeline permit applications.

H.R. 351, LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act
Expands liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to strengthen America’s economy, create jobs, and increase energy security for our allies abroad.

H.R. 527, Small Business Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act of 2015
Requires agencies to assess the impact of rules and regulations on small businesses and consider possible alternatives.

H.R. 644, America Gives More Act of 2015
Promotes charitable giving through the tax code and incentivizes restaurants, grocery stores, farmers, and other businesses to contribute their excess inventory to local food banks and non-profits.

H.R. 633, America's Small Business Tax Relief Act of 2015
Permanently extends increased small business expensing levels to provide stability for employers, leading to growth and more good-paying jobs.
