It’s unconscionable that Republicans –who currently hold the House, Senate, & Presidency– are allowing a gov shutdown to happen. This is already hurting workers & the economy, impairing critical fed operations including homeland security. This is harmful & completely unnecessary

He chooses the Christmas season to pander to his base and shutdown the government because Congress refuses to pay nearly $6 billion for a wall along the southern border that is nothing more than a political talking point for his next campaign.

It is unfortunate that in the midst of the Holiday season President Trump is forcing more than 420,000 federal workers to continue on the job without pay. Hopefully, after quick reflection, the President and his enablers re-think this approach to funding the government.

380,000 federal workers will now be put on leave without pay just 4 days before Christmas. Republicans control the House, the Senate AND the White House and they just shut the government down. Again.

THREE SHUTDOWNS IN ONE YEAR. Even with complete control of the House, Senate and White House, the GOP have proven they can't fund a government.

The #TrumpShutdown is on them. When the GOP are ready to work with the Democrats and fund the government, we'll be here.

Donald Trump has forced this shutdown because he wants to spend billions on an immoral, expensive, and ineffective border wall. America needs him to step up and demonstrate the responsibility his position demands. I call on him to stand with Democrats to end the #TrumpShutdown.

Donald Trump needs to face the reality that he won’t get $5 billion for his wall and accept responsibility for keeping the government running.

But at the 11th hour, Donald Trump succumbed to pressure from his far right-wing base and chose to shut down the government for a $5 billion down payment on his vanity wall. This shutdown is totally unfair, completely unnecessary, and entirely the President’s fault.

Two nights ago, the Senate did its job by passing a bill to keep the government open with the expectation that the House would pass it and that the President would sign it into law.

“The government is shutdown” — what does it mean? A mom standing guard on the border won’t get her paycheck. A family ready to open the door to their first home will find it locked. & a small business owner will lose his first big government contract. This #TrumpShutdown is real.

All told, 420,000 people will work without pay, and another 380,000 will be furloughed because of Trump’s tantrum.

Border patrol agents — the people doing the real work of securing the border Trump has feigns concern for — will be forced to work without pay. The same thing goes for air traffic controllers and TSA agents, correctional officers, and firefighters with the U.S. Forest Service.

We’ve entered the #TrumpShutdown because of the President’s infantile demand for a wall that has been panned as an ineffective, wasteful, and unnecessary by nearly every border security expert you can find. Mexico was never going to pay for it, and taxpayers shouldn’t either.
