Press Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Today, Congressman André Carson (IN-07), congratulated Indianapolis for having the 6th highest volunteer rate in the nation. In a report released this week by the Corporation for National and Community Service, Indianapolis ranked 6th among the 51 largest cities across the country for volunteerism.

“I am fortunate to come from Indiana where a sense of community is the norm,” said Congressman André Carson. “I am proud of my fellow Hoosiers who, time and again, have demonstrated their willingness to put their skills and experience to good use in improving our neighborhoods and communities.”

The report finds residents in Indy volunteered 51.7 million hours equaling an estimated economic impact of $1.2 billion dollars in 2017.

The annual report is produced through a partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and provides a comprehensive collection of information on volunteering and civic engagement with detailed data for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
