Review of Federal Spending
Our government has a spending problem. We have run trillion dollar deficits for years. Currently, we are sitting on over $19 trillion in debt. Our path just isn't sustainable. Our debt suppresses economic growth and poses a serious national security threat. I am committed to helping restore fiscal sanity through diligently reviewing all federal programs and spending.
I believe that through substantial reforms, we can identify savings and establish a sound fiscal footing. Our government is overspending and we also have a moral obligation to review all federal spending to ensure our country has financial security for future generations.
Along with reducing our national debt, these reforms will strengthen the longevity of entitlement programs (like social security, medicare and medicaid) so future retirees will receive the benefits they need. Reviewing all federal spending, including entitlements, will require courage, but is necessary to ensure the fiscal stability of our country.
We can fix this. Americans have always had the courage to do the right thing. I am confident that we will rise, once again, and save our country for future generations. As your Congressman I am committed to restoring financial stability.

Washington, D.C. – After the passage of the Make America Secure and Prosperous Appropriations Act, Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement:
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) issued the following statement after today’s vote on the disaster relief, debt ceiling, and government funding bill:
“This wasn’t a vote for hurricane relief. I already voted for emergency funding on Wednesday. I voted no because we once again have abandoned our military and failed to address our national debt.”
