Transportation
Transportation infrastructure is vital to the smooth functioning of our economy and society. The Bronx is part of a city which relies on public transportation to a far greater extent than others. Congressman Serrano has worked on behalf of the Bronx to make sure that federal funding helps preserve, upgrade, and expand the transportation choices available. He also advocates for lowering the greenhouse gas emissions of transportation options in the Bronx to reduce environmental harm.
During his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Serrano has worked to upgrade and beautify the streets of the Bronx. In a dense urban environment, the Bronx is dependent on the common space of the streets, and as it rebuilds itself from a troubled time, the streets have become a symbol of the rebirth of the Bronx. The clean, safer streets are home to the life of the borough, and Congressman Serrano has contributed to that clean up. He has secured multiple funding sources for making the streets safer, both for pedestrians, and cars, as well as reduced crime through lighting and increased police presence. Serrano believes that the Bronx streetscape is a mirror of the diverse and rich community that inhabits it.
Congressman Serrano knows that many of the residents of the Bronx use the MTA system to travel to and from work, as well as to move about the community. As a result, he has always supported MTA requests for federal funding and programs. Congressman Serrano was the leader in securing funding for a new MetroNorth stop at the new Yankee Stadium, ensuring that Yankee games would generate less traffic congestion in the surrounding neighborhood and roadways
