Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso, both R-Wyo., banded together with nine other senators to create a caucus with the sole purpose of increasing border security and enforcing current border security laws.

“Secure borders are a basic building block to our national security. We can’t have true national security without knowing exactly who is coming into our country. We have laws already on the books to decrease illegal immigration through our borders but there is a gap of enforcement that needs to be plugged. By working together we can form a formidable group to bring change and discussion to the immigration problems in our country,” said Enzi.

“Wyoming folks want secure borders and a secure nation. We owe it to all Americans, those who were born here and those who are legal immigrants to maintain the ideals of the citizenship process and the laws of our country,” Barrasso said.

The Border Security and Enforcement First Caucus, organized by Senator David Vitter, R-La., brings like-minded conservative senators together to advocate for increases in border security and interior enforcement. The caucus will work in the Senate to defeat future legislation that may include amnesty.

Some of the goals of the caucus include completing a full border fence by 2010, giving state governors the authority to deploy guard troops to the border, making English the official language of the U.S., compensating state and local entities for immigration related expenses and ensuring that illegal aliens with DUIs are deported.
