Bennet Selected as Member of Joint Select Committee on Budget and Appropriations Process Reform

Washington, D.C. - Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today was selected as a member of the Joint Select Committee on Budget and Appropriations Process Reform. The bipartisan committee-established as part of the budget deal on February 7, 2018-will provide recommendations and legislative language to significantly improve the budget and appropriations process.

"Our budget process is broken, and we lack basic accountability on fiscal issues," Bennet said. "That combination has led us to make a series of irresponsible decisions that will leave our kids and grandkids holding the bag. I hope this committee can develop reforms to our budget process that will force accountability, bipartisanship, and fiscal responsibility. We should be doing everything we can to leave our kids and grandkids with greater opportunity instead of unsustainable debt burdens."

The Senate Democratic committee membership for the Joint Select Committee on Budget and Appropriations Process Reform is as follows:

  • Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO)
  • Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)
  • Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI)
  • Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI)

The Joint Select Committee will also include four Senate Republicans (to be announced), four House Democrats, and four House Republicans.
