Putting Veterans First

Congressman Langevin speaks at an Operation Stand Down RI event

Dear Friends,

Veterans Day is right around the corner, bringing to mind the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform. It is an important day to honor these brave servicemembers, and thank them for their commitment to this great nation. But our gratitude cannot be limited to a single day.

Veterans must be on our minds every day, and we need to put our thanks into action.

I introduced the Veterans Homebuyer Accessibility Act to provide a tax credit of up to $8,000 for veterans to purchase their first home or make adaptive housing improvements. I also introduced the Military and Veteran Caregiver Services Improvement Act, which would make veterans of all eras eligible for caregiver support services and expand services available to caregivers.

Both bills have the support of many veterans’ organizations, and perhaps most importantly, the support of veterans and military caregivers in Rhode Island. I was proud to have veteran caregivers Dottie Furlong and Angela O’Connell by my side at Operation Stand Down last month as we rallied support for these bills. They are selfless women, and I am going to keep fighting for them and for military families like theirs. We owe it to them.

To learn more about my priorities, follow me on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.

            Sincerely,

           Rep. Langevin's Signature

Exercise Your Right
The right to vote is the cornerstone of democracy, and one of our most important responsibilities as Americans. As a former Secretary of State, I believe the electoral process should be transparent and accessible. Our state has come so far in bringing elections into the 21st century, and we must continue to make improvements. Don’t forget to have your voice heard and vote tomorrow, on November 4. Visit the Secretary of State’s website to find your polling place and other important voting information.

Living on the Edge
Too many people struggle with homelessness, and many other Rhode Islanders are just one paycheck away from living on the street. I’m grateful to the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless, Amos House and House of Hope Community Development Center for introducing me to many of these people and for a great discussion on how we can eradicate poverty from our communities.
