“The conversation” is about “gun deaths”. Your implication that death by suicide shouldn’t count is appalling and unhelpful.

Yes but the "gun deaths" narrative is being used to instill public fear. It is a very disingenuous presentation.
-
And the whole argument “the government is coming to take your guns!!! Stockpile ammo and guns!!” Isn’t fear mongering
-
People who die of an accidental prescribed medicine overdose are also counted in the overdosage numbers, even though they were legally taking their meds
-
Yes they are. But when you read about that happening, it is not part of an article trying to scare you into banning prescription drugs.
-
Which is why there's a full article of information and not just a header... something a lot of people yelling "fake news" all too eagerly forget (not saying you belong in that group, but many dont read past the header). article itself contains correct info, as well as cdc source
-
Why do you suppose CNN chose the title of the article they did as opposed to "gun suicide rate rising" or "gun homicide rate declining", which are also both CDC sourceable statistics.

What's amazing about the comments on this thread is just how many people are perfectly fine with tens of thousands of people committing suicide by gun, cause......I don't know what. Do you want to know why access for guns by people who are suicidal is bad? It's because people's

depression and feeling as if there is no way out of how they are feeling, actually changes minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, week by week, month by month, but when a gun is within reach, in that one moment when someone feels there is no way out, within minutes they're
-
gone, no chance of intervention, no chance for one phone call to change their mind. Now, let me remind you of one more fact, for those of you who are fine with these statistics. Thousands of these men/women who commit suicide are our Veterans. Yes, those men and women, who have

given everything of themselves for this nation, and we, the people, have left them to deal with the mental anguish they deal with daily, with NO support. If you're looking at these numbers, and somehow making it okay in your mind, then maybe, you should be searching your heart.
-
22 Veterans every single day commit suicide in this nation. So, maybe if you don't care about the average American who has lost all hope killing themselves with a gun, you can find it within your heart to care about them, or are zygotes all you give a shit about. Shame on you.

Americans have a 1 in 315 chance of dying by gun violence. This is unacceptable by any reasonable standard.
-
I’m going to need you to show me the numbers on this.
-
.and if you feel like doing a 1.6 second google search you’ll find about a million more sources that say the same thing. Stop being lazy.
-
When I look up info, I don’t rely on articles to tell me what I should think, I go to the actual data.https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2017/crime-in-the-u.s.-2017/topic-pages/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-8.xls …
-
13,000 is a very high number for the average, which you can see in the data table that shows the actual numbers. But even if we take that 13,000, with there being 325,000,000, that’s a 1/25,000 chance, not 1/315. This is why I never trust the math in any article.
-
What’s lazy is blindly accepting what the article tells you to feel without ever looking at the data yourself. As you can see, they used some pretty bad math if they managed to come up with 1/315 wherever you found that.
-
Gun grabbers entire existence is based off of their followers just blindly believing anything.
-
I’m not a gun grabber so that’s your first mistake. Also, I’m done going in circles with people who lack common sense and a basic level of humanity so you go on and have a wonderful day. Bless your heart.
