Washington, D.C. – The Dayton Fire Department is set to receive federal grant funding to combat fires, according to U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP) awarded the fire department $69,156 in direct assistance to be used for improving equipment, training, and for modifications to facilities and stations.

“This grant provides Dayton and Sheridan County with additional funds to our firefighters to help provide the tools they need to better protect our homes, our lands and our lives from the devastation fires can cause. I appreciate the work these great volunteers do for our communities,” Enzi said.

This grant is part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program for 2005 that provided $650 million in direct assistance to firefighters across the country. Grants are awarded to support three program areas including operations and firefighter safety programs, fire prevention programs, and firefighting vehicles acquisition programs which help local fire departments fund the purchase of firefighting equipment, fund firefighter health and safety programs, enhance emergency medical services programs and conduct fire education and prevention programs.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is administered by the Office for Domestic Preparedness through the Department of Homeland Security, in cooperation with the Department’s United States Fire Administration (USFA), to reduce life and economic losses due to fire and fire related emergencies.
