Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Craig Thomas, Mike Enzi and Representative Barbara Cubin, all R-Wyo., are encouraging a federal partnership with the city of Evanston for clean-up efforts of the Evanston Roundhouse and Railyards.

In a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the delegation urged the EPA to work with the city of Evanston to allow the site to qualify for the Brownfields grant program which would provide funding to clean-up the historic site and lead to potential economic and environmental benefits.

“This project is of great importance to the city of Evanston, and it is a priority of ours,” the delegation wrote in a Sept. 9 letter to the EPA.

The Brownfields program can provide a method for cleaning up and reusing property which has been damaged or could be damaged by the presence of hazardous substances, chemicals or pollutants.

The delegation also urged the EPA to provide other alternatives for funding if the Brownfields program would not be available.
