Raising Profiles: Nevada Women in STEM
I built my career in Nevada as a computer programmer in a male-dominated industry. As a woman who started her career in STEM, we’ve made progress, but women are still underrepresented in science and tech, as well as in STEM jobs. The gender gap is depriving our nation of talented minds who could be solving our biggest challenges. That’s why every month my office will highlight a Nevada woman in STEM to show our appreciation for their work and role in breaking stereotypes.

May 2018 - Cristina Rocha Rodríguez
Cristina Rocha Rodríguez is a computer science student at the College of Southern Nevada and aims to ultimately earn her doctorate degree and become a cybersecurity specialist.
April 2018 - Mara Quiroga
Mara Quiroga, a Project Designer at Lumos and Associates, graduated from Virginia City High School as a salutatorian at the age of 16 years old. After spending a gap year in Denmark studying, she became a Presidential Scholar at the University of Nevada, Reno, where she majored in Civil Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. Mara has worked in various site and land development projects across Nevada.
March 2018 - Ana Katarina “Kai” Charvet
Ana Katarina “Kai” Charvet is the first American ever to win the Adobe Certified Association World Championship. Her work exemplifies the beauty that can be created when STEM & art intersect. Read more about her success in this Las Vegas Review-Journal article.
February 2018 - Britney Davis
Britney Davis is an accomplished engineer and the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada STEAM Director. As STEAM Director, Britney works tirelessly to introduce girls to STEAM education to open doors for them in the future. Thank you for your hard work. Nevada is a better place because of people like you.
January 2018 - Sonia Vohra
Sonia Vohra grew up in Las Vegas and is currently in college at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service studying Science, Technology, and International Affairs with a concentration in Biotechnology and Global Health. Sonia is smart and driven, and aims to be a doctor one day. Keep up the incredible work and congratulations!
December 2017 - Kristen Goodell
As the principal architect for Aptus in Las Vegas, Kristen leverages her personality, wisdom, work ethic, and architecture prowess to lead and coordinate crucial aspects of every project she touches. She is key to the success of the company and continues to be a role model to not only the younger staff in the firm, but to the community as a whole. Kristen has a thorough grasp of building technology and is a true STEM champion. Congrats, Kristen!
November 2017 - Donna Levy
Donna is the principal at Southwest Career and Technical Academy in Las Vegas, a magnet high school offering special classes in engineering, tech, and other careers. Donna was at the helm in 2016 and 2017, when Southwest Career and Technical Academy
won the Merit Award honoring the top magnet schools in the United States. Her dedication and compassion for preparing today's students for tomorrow's economy knows no bounds. She is a true STEM champion. Congrats, Donna!
October 2017 - Lara Turello
Lara is earning her master’s degree in biochemistry at UNLV and is researching gene expression and antibiotic resistance. Congrats, Lara!
