Washington, D.C. - World hunger, overseas educational systems, foreign small business enterprise and military readiness are all issues U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi will be exploring with European leaders over the next couple of weeks.
Enzi leaves for Europe today and will return mid-month.
Enzi is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and he believes oversight of the United Nations and UN-run programs is important. In Italy, Enzi's first stop, he will meet with the director of the UN Food and Agricultural Organization, officials of the World Food Program and the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
Enzi is also a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, a member of the Senate Small Business Committee and a member of the Senate Banking Committee. In view of those areas of responsibility he has also scheduled a meeting with Italy's education minister, a meeting with the President of the Italian Confederation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and meetings with Italian bankers and Italian stock exchange officials. Also on Enzi's Italy schedule is a meeting with Marcello Pera, the President of the Italian Senate.
Enzi will also visit England, Kosovo, Serbia and Montenegro before returning to Italy. He will be traveling with a U.S. Senate delegation led by Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore. The senators will meet with country leaders to discuss issues concerning NATO.
