Washington, D.C. – U.S. District Judge Clarence Brimmer struck down a rule from the Clinton Administration that would lead to the ban on snowmobile use in Yellowstone.

U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi, a long-time advocate for access and reasonable use of snowmobiles in the Park, made the following comments regarding the decision.

"We should look at this as an opportunity to work toward the goal of achieving a snowmobiling symmetry for Yellowstone. Gone forever are the days of unlimited and unregulated numbers of snowmobiles in the park. We need to take steps to protect the area's natural beauty and assure a quality experience for winter visitors. There are plans in place ready to do just that.

"But those on the other side of the snowmobiling seesaw should meet snowmobilers halfway and acknowledge that there is a place for a limited number of environmentally sensitive snowmobiles in the park, rather than instigating endless court battles in an effort to tip the balance toward their side.

"Action needs to be taken quickly to get a reliable plan in place now that will see park users through at least until spring."
