Dear Friend,

We are less than two months away from the midterm elections, and Republicans in Congress—and the White House—have yet to take the common-sense steps we need to safeguard our electoral process and the fundamental right to vote.

Since 2016, I’ve been sounding the alarm on the need to update our election infrastructure. While I was successful in securing $380 million in grants to help states fortify and protect election systems from cyber-hacking, this amount isn't nearly enough. Make no mistake: the outdated technology and old machines we rely on to conduct thousands of elections across the country are susceptible to foreign attack, and that makes us less safe.

Recently, I sat down with David Axelrod and the ACLU to discuss these threats in depth, as well as the need to harden our defenses so we can protect our democracy, our values, and our principles from those who wish us harm.
