Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Senate is in session today and senators are working despite the possible discovery of ricin in the Dirksen Building office of Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.

All three Senate office buildings have been closed while police and health officials take steps to ensure the safety of staff and visitors.

U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., said none of his staff have reported any ill effects in relation to this situation. As of Tuesday morning there were no public reports of illness because of the incident.

"We've been through this before and like before it won't keep us from doing our jobs," said Enzi referring to the finding of anthrax in the Senate Hart building in 2001. "I will be working in the Capitol and from home today as will some members of my Washington-based staff. My Wyoming offices are functioning normally."

Enzi's office is in the Russell Senate building, which is across the street from Dirksen, but it is connected via an underground tunnel.

"This serves as yet another reminder that we live in a dangerous world. However, I think the majority leader did the right thing by convening the Senate today. We have a lot of work to do in a year that will already be cut short by the upcoming election," said Enzi. "I hope we can reopen our DC offices soon."

Enzi said until his Washington Senate office reopens, the best way for people to get assistance is through his state offices.
