Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., said federal grant funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) should help improve the energy efficiency of the homes of low-income families in Wyoming.

The Wyoming Department of Family Services is set to receive $1,154,664 in federal grant money from the DOE Weatherization Assistance Program. The program performs energy audits to identify the most cost-effective measures for each home which includes adding insulation, reducing air infiltration, servicing heating and cooling systems and providing health and safety diagnostic services.

"Wyoming's weather can be harsh in any season," said Enzi. "This funding will help many families in the state save money while beating the heat and cold."

The program gives priority to low-income households of the elderly and people with disabilities and children.

The Congressional Appropriation for the Weatherization Assistance Program is about $223.5 million in fiscal year 2003, which is expected to cover approximately 93,750 homes nationwide.
