Washington, D.C. -- Wyoming's Senators, Craig Thomas and Mike Enzi, are encouraging Wyoming high school students to apply for the United States Senate Youth Program.

"We are always happy to welcome students into this program," the Senators said. "This program is a wonderful opportunity for two Wyoming students to come to Washington and see first hand the inner workings of Congress."
The program was established in 1962 and is open to students who academically rank in the top one percent of their states and are committed to volunteer work. Since its inception, more than 4,000 students have participated in the program.

Delegate selection is administered by each state's chief school officer in cooperation with high school principals. Delegates must be either a junior or senior and an elected school officer.

Each of the 104 delegates from across the nation will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, a $5,000 scholarship, and a week of intensive learning about the U.S. Senate and the Federal Government.

Applications are due by October 4, 2002 and should be mailed to Randall S. Mason, Unit Supervisor, Wyoming Department of Education, 2300 Capitol Avenue, Room 289, Cheyenne, Wyoming, 82001.
