Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., congratulates Dustin Yager, graduating senior of Greybull High School, for his exceptional accomplishments in academics, the arts and outstanding commitment to public service.

Yager was chosen as one of the nation's 141 Presidential Scholars for 2002 and will join other award recipients for an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 22-27. The trip includes meetings with government officials, educators, authors, musicians and scientists as well as a recognition ceremony in honor of the scholars at the White House where he will be presented with a Presidential Scholar medallion.

"Each year some of the nation's top students are selected as Presidential Scholars," said Enzi. "Dustin represents Wyoming's finest and I know he will continue to work hard to achieve his personal and professional goals and strengthen his community."

Yager, who met high SAT and ACT standards, was invited to submit candidacy materials including essays, self-assessments, secondary school reports and transcripts to a 25-member Commission on Presidential Scholars. The commission evaluated each candidate and this year made their final selection from a field of 2,600 candidates. Appointed by the president, the commission is comprised of leaders in education, medicine, law, social services, business and government.

Presidential Scholars were also asked to identify educators who have most influenced their lives. The selected educators are then invited to attend National Recognition Week in the nation's capital where a reception is scheduled to honor them with a Teacher Recognition award. Yager selected Karyne Dunbar, a teacher at Greybull High School.

The Presidential Scholar program was made possible by an executive order issued in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. During the past 37 years the program has honored nearly 4,000 students who have demonstrated leadership, scholarship and contributed to their school and community.

Also honored from Wyoming was Michelina A. Cox from Ethete.
