Representing the 10th District of Michigan

Mitchell Votes to Support Agriculture, Rural Communities

December 12, 2018
Press Release

WASHINGTON – Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement after voting to pass the Conference Report to H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act, commonly referred to as the Farm Bill, which reforms and reauthorizes farm and nutrition assistance programs for five years. The bill, which already passed the Senate, now heads to President Donald Trump for signature.

“I’m pleased to see we reached an agreement with the Senate and passed a Farm Bill that sets our country on a better path to help America’s farmers, dairy operators, ranchers, rural communities. The bill addresses many needs in my district, Michigan’s 10th.” said Mitchell. “This Farm Bill represents a major investment in rural broadband, raises the minimum standards for rural broadband, and targets grants and financial support to communities that need it most. It also assists American dairy producers, especially small dairy producers like those in Michigan’s Thumb, by expanding affordable coverage for producers of all sizes. The bill also maintains the sugar program to protect sugar growers in my district and across America from anti-competitive foreign programs that dump sugar at artificially low prices. Lastly, the Conference Report makes incremental but significant changes that ensure the financial integrity of SNAP and make it more effective for recipients.  I look forward to President Trump signing it into law soon.”
