Service Academy Nominations

As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, I have the distinct honor of nominating promising young men and women from Florida’s Seventh District for selection to one of our nation’s service academies. One of the application requirements of all of the United States service academies (except for the United States Coast Guard Academy) is nomination by a government official. The nominating official is usually a Member of Congress. The military service academies (Army, Navy and Air Force) also accept nominations from other government officials. If you are interested in attending one of these academies, I urge you to apply for a nomination from me as well as the other nomination sources:
  • Senators Bill Nelson or Marco Rubio
  • President Donald Trump, who nominates children of career military personnel; deceased or disabled veterans; military or civilian personnel in missing status; and Medal of Honor recipients;
  • Vice President Mike Pence, who nominates five individuals from across the United States per year; and
  • The Secretary of the Army, Navy, or Air Force, who nominate members of regular military, reserve components, and participants in ROTC programs.
Candidates for a service academy nomination need to be aware that each academy has specific deadlines which must be met if an application is to be successful. Please be sure to visit the academy websites for specific information regarding deadlines and other application requirements. An active application with the academy is required to interview for a nomination. If you are interested in pursuing my nomination to one of the service academies, please fill out the application at the bottom of the page and carefully read the eligibility requirements and deadlines below. You will receive further instructions from my office. Please note that I can only consider applications from Florida’s Seventh District.

Thank you for your interest in the service academies.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Murphy
Member of Congress

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for more than one nomination?

Applying for more than one nomination increases your chances of securing a nomination. More than one nomination, however, is neither required nor of assistance in gaining an appointment. If another authority nominates you, please notify us so that I may allow other candidates the opportunity for nomination.

What if I apply to more than one academy? Am I eligible for more than one nomination?

Yes. I am able to nominate qualified applicants to multiple academies. You may also win multiple appointments.

Who can I contact with further questions?

Please call my office toll free at 1-888-205-5421 or email FL07.Academy@mail.house.gov

Applicants who receive a nomination will be placed among a select group of nominees, and the academy of your choice will make the final decision. If selected, applicants will receive an offer of admission directly from the academy. Academies should begin to notify candidates of their admission status in February. All offers of appointment are generally sent out by May.
