The violence is due to disrespect for human life, we have become a culture of death and numbness to the gift of life. Until this cultural change takes place that places life first we will see death and more senseless death. Guns are an inanimate tool used at times for evil
Before he murdered 12 people, the Police had previously called in a team of mental health specialists who decided that Long did not qualify to be involuntarily detained for mental health evaluation under CA state law ~

Hey Jared, California has the strictest gun laws in America. Tell me again how that stopped this shooter?
It seems Colorado govt is chocked full of "gun enthusiasts" & large donations from the NRA. Is there anything you/we can do at a state level?
We need Congress to stop this. If Congress does not act nothing will changehttps://medium.com/@luisalejandrovega/why-mass-shootings-in-america-arent-going-away-and-how-we-can-change-that-401ddd7c95e …
Why do Chicago's extremely strict gun laws seem to have the opposite of the intended effect?
Guns are brought in from outside of Chicago. This is a very tired argument.
Can you explain Switzerland?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=me8f-rlAj2Y …
Not in a tweet, no, but it's a totally different culture and doesn't provide useful parallels to our situation for multiple reasons.
And still waiting to hear anything specific (beyond the tired platitudes) that would've prevented this.
Are you opposed to any gun regulations at all? Universal background checks? Anything to help fix the problem or should we remain essentially a firearm free-for- all? Just want to know where you at and whether it even makes sense to continue.
We already have lots of gun regulations, some even make sense. The question is: What SPECIFICALLY is anyone proposing that would've prevented this or similar events? Magazine restrictions? The guy had an illegal extended mag. Maybe we can make murder illegal.
Universal background checks, end gun show loophole, outlaw bump stocks increase availability of mental health services. I agree there are existing laws on the books that need to be enforced and there is no one solution that will solve this problem. Doing nothing won't work.
Like what? And quit making it just about guns. Guns have been around forever. Our gun laws use to be much less strict than now. Mass shootings are only regularly happening the past couple decades though. When behavior changes in society we need to look at what else changed.
Stupid NRA crap response. Assault style weapons were banned for a period and now that they are not mass shootings increase. Is much rather someone come with their evil intent sporting a knife or a weapon they have to reload often.
I don’t own a gun or care about the NRA. Nice try though. And notice I said “just”. The ban you are talking about expired after these mass shootings started. They also happen after we banned automatic weapons. And many of these mass shootings used handguns. It’s not just guns.
Jared, I would like to brief you on another security issue on EMP/GMD/and global warming ASAP. 303-912-0096
Congratulations on writing a great Colorado Government Tweet: http://cogovtweets.measuredvoice.com/RepJaredPolis/status/1060572070952595456 … (Ranked 4th for Nov 8.)
Now that we took care of business on Tuesday we can finally take action on guns.
