Economic Opportunity and National Defense Necessity

A Roundtable Exploring the Future of Space Commerce

Washington, D.C.- U.S. Senator Michael B. Enzi, R-Wyo., and Senator Tim Johnson, D- S.D. have invited members of the media and public for a presentation of "Export Controls: The Impact on Space Commerce" on Tuesday, Sept.19, 2000. This event sponsored in part by ProSpace, The Space Frontier Foundation, and The Space Transportation Association, will address the challenges presented to the space industry by current U.S. export control policies. More importantly, the discussion will explore the potential for new processes and approaches that will both fully assure America's national security, and fully realize the economic potential of space commerce opportunities in the new century and beyond.

 


WHAT:
Discussion on the prospective methods to achieve new realities regarding the economic potential of commercial space opportunities and doing so without compromising the national security of the United States.

WHO:
Speakers include: Senator Enzi, Chairman of the Senate Banking Subcommitte on International Trade and Finance, and Ranking Member Senator Johnson, Colonel Dave Garner of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Jeff Hofgard from The Boeing Company and Director of Export Policy and Strategy, Richard Cupitt, Associate Director of The Center for International Trade and Security- University of Geogia. Other speakers have been invited, but were not confirmed at the time this advisory was issued.

The Roundtable discussion is scheduled on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000 at 8:30 a.m.- 10:00 a.m.
