A profit motive encourages entities to be more efficient and to develop more and better products/services. Socialism tends to breed complacency.

You keep throwing pharma in there and you are wrong.....prescription costs as a percent of healthcare spending has remained almost constant for the past 15years, the part of healthcare costs that have increased is Administrative costs.
-
One product doesn't represent the market, just as one stock doesn't either. There's some drugs were prices up and some where they go down.
-
Price gauging shouldnt be happening with products people need to live.
-
Employee: "Hey we made this thing that can save lives and people need this to live!" Big Pharma: "Sweet, charge them more money than they have." Employee: "They won't live if we do that..." Big Pharma: "We NeEd MoNEy Or wE Can'T MaKe BetTeR PrOdUCts!!1!1!1"
-
Employee: hey looks like you're making more than enough considering the dividends you're paying out and high executive pay

Medicare for all is the very definition of a crazy idea. Government F's up everything they touch - why on earth would I want the same people who can't fix a pothole to fix healthcare? Maybe you should try to get health insurance companies to become non-profits
-
Fine. I'll trade you: No healthcare for no military.
-
hahaha that makes alot of sense. great idea!
-
Well, you did say govt f's up everything they touch. (read: libertarians don't understand the benefit of programs that do not directly affect them in any way)
-
Every program provided by government “directly affects me in some way,” because money I earned is taken out of my check to pay for the programs.
-
So you agree that the military should be dissolved?
-
Dissolved is a bit extreme, but reigned in dramatically would be a great start. We’re talking about healthcare though. Don’t move the goalposts.
-
I'm wary of "moving the goalposts" too, as you say, but when there is constant questioning about how to pay for M4A, but so little when it comes to military spending, I think it's come time to compare the two and talk about them in the same conversation.

Yeah but how are we gonna fund our pointless wars if we have to provide people with decent healthcare?
-
The M4A will be cheaper, thus it pays for it self.
-
Excellent! As long as we have billions for SOME KIND of mass murder, Americans will be happy.
