Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) applauded the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for awarding the State of Nevada a grant of more than $3 million to continue the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) program. The Summer EBT program provides parents who depend on school meals to feed their children with debit cards to help provide meals for their children during the summer.

“I applaud the Department of Agriculture for awarding this important grant money to our state, which will help families across Nevada feed their kids this summer,” said Rosen. “No child in Nevada should ever go hungry, and I will work to ensure that we protect funding for essential programs that help nurture and protect our children.”

BACKGROUND: Through Summer EBT, participating States and Tribes provide the families of low-income children with food benefits on debit cards, giving them more resources to use at retail food stores. Summer EBT is designed to complement traditional summer meal programs by providing States with an additional tool to serve communities that have limited or no access to traditional summer meal programs.
