NEW ON CONGRESSWOMAN FUDGE'S WEBSITE: NATIONAL CHILDHOOD OBESITY AWARENESS MONTH ACTIVITIES, RESOURCES AND INFORMATION

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OH - Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge today announced the expansion of her official website, www.fudge.house.gov  including a dedication to September 2010, National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.

The information includes a summary of the Congresswoman's initiatives, bills and events designed to attack this national health epidemic. The portal also includes helpful links to resources for families, schools, community organizations and health care providers.

In May, the House passed a Resolution (H.R. 996) introduced by Congresswomen Fudge and Kay Granger Resolution (TX-12) to designate September, 2010 as Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.  Congresswoman Fudge says dedicating at least one month per year to the crisis will help maximize the impact  of programs, activities and campaigns-- all aligned with the sole purpose of eradicating childhood obesity.

One out of three Ohio children is overweight or obese.  Medical experts say the rates are still rising. "Obese children are more than four times as likely to have diabetes and face greater risks of developing asthma, mental health problems and heart conditions," stated Congresswoman Fudge.  "By combining our efforts, we can break the cycle of obesity and give our young people the opportunity to live longer, healthier lives."
