One of my top priorities as a Member of Congress is to reach across the aisle in order to find common sense, bipartisan solutions that end Washington gridlock. In particular, two areas that have historically been bipartisan are infrastructure and small business.
There is no question that both large and small businesses are still feeling the effects of the 2008 financial crisis. Small businesses have long been the engine driving the American economy. While the economy has made important strides since the Great Recession, studies have continuously shown that small businesses have been slower to recover. As the president of Chicago-area small businesses, and as the former Deputy Illinois Treasurer, I have a unique perspective on how government can help or hinder small business growth and development. I am committed to working with all Members of Congress to look for ways the federal government can help small business owners by making lending simple and transparent, repealing burdensome regulations, and modernizing our nation's tax policies.
A strong national infrastructure is part of the foundation of our economy, yet we have failed to invest in transportation even though our infrastructure continues to age. That is why we need bipartisan solutions that can address the backlog of transportation projects throughout the country. I support the establishment of a National Infrastructure Bank which can provide low-interest loans to states and cities to help finance crucial projects like roads and transit systems. Finding innovative ways to finance infrastructure projects is a critical step toward renovating our transportation infrastructure while reducing congestion on our roads and highways.

CHICAGO, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and City Colleges of Chicago Chancellor Juan Salgado today at Wright College announced that funding from the passage of Rep. Krishnamoorthi’s legislation, The Strengthening Career and Technical Education (CTE) for the 21st Century Act, known as The Perkins Act, will support the continued modernization of CTE programs in Chicago. The Perkins Act is the main source of federal funding for high school and postsecondary CTE programs in Illinois.
CHICAGO, IL – Congressman Krishnamoorthi toured Cinespace Film Studios in Chicago today as part of his continuing leadership on the issues of workforce development and skills training. At Cinespace, Congressman Krishnamoorthi discussed on-the-job training in the film industry with interns in CineCares’ Mirkopoulos Internship Program (MIP) and its community partners. Through MIP, CineCares offers young adults in the Chicago area from under-served communities a 12-week job training program in the TV and film industry.
Congressman Krishnamoorthi's Amendment To Research The Economic Impacts Of Airport Noise Becomes Law
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi applauds the signing into law of the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization, a law which includes an amendment authored by Congressman Krishnamoorthi requiring the FAA to study the economic impacts of excessive noise around airports.
WASHINGTON, D.C.- On Friday, September 28, House Republicans passed legislation (H.R. 6760) to permanently cap the State and Local Tax (SALT) Deduction at $10,000 for both individuals and joint filers. This severe limitation applies to state and local income, property, and sales taxes. According to the Joint Committee on Taxation, this legislation will increase the deficit by $631 billion over the next 10 years. Congressman Krishnamoorthi released the following statement:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed legislation to fund the departments of Labor, Health, and Human Services, and Education. This includes $1.9 billion for career, technical, and adult education programs authorized by the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act and the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act. This will ensure that all students have the opportunity to continue to develop their skills in their post-secondary education and succeed in in-demand careers.

WASHINGTON, DC – On Thursday, Congress passed bipartisan legislation to fund Energy and Water Development programs through FY2019. Among several important provisions, this legislation increases funding for the Energy Department’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) by 2.5% to $2.38 billion, and boosts funding for the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) office by 3.7% to $366 million. In addition, this bill established the Solar Ready Vets Program, which prepares our nation’s skilled veterans for high-paying careers in the solar industry.
ELGIN, IL – On Monday, Congressman Krishnamoorthi convened with more than fifty state and local education leaders, including Illinois School Superintendent Tony Smith and U-46 CEO Tony Sanders, to tour career and technical education (CTE) programs at Elgin High School and South Elgin High School. During the tour, attendees met with students and teachers participating in CTE courses designed to prepare students for high-tech, in-demand jobs in the region.
