ROSEN STATEMENT ON ADMINISTRATION’S BUMP STOCK RULE

December 18, 2018
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement in response to the Department of Justice issuing its final rule to ban bump stock devices. Following 1 October, Rosen helped introduce the bipartisan Curbelo-Moulton bill to prohibit the manufacture, transfer, or possession of bump stocks. Rosen also co-sponsored The Automatic Gunfire Prevention Act, which prohibits the importation, manufacture, transfer, sale, or possession of bump stocks with a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

“While the Administration's decision to ban these deadly devices is long overdue, it’s a step in the right direction," said Rosen. "Our nation’s gun violence epidemic continues to claim lives at a daily rate, and bump stocks have only caused more devastation as our community witnessed in Las Vegas. Passing a statutory ban on bump stocks is one of the most effective ways Congress can prevent these dangerous devices from ever coming back into use. We must continue to press for meaningful gun reform, and that includes banning the sale of military-style assault weapons and expanding background checks to all commercial gun sales.”
