The Cash for Clunkers program gave car buyers rebates of up to $4,500 if they traded in less fuel-efficient vehicles for new vehicles that met certain fuel economy requirements. A total of $3 billion was allotted for those rebates. The average rebate was $4,000.

And the worst part of that program wasn’t even the wasted money... it diminished the supply of affordable used cars (and parts) available to middle class Americans.

Average Americans will never buy this “$5 Billion isn’t that much money” B.S. propaganda. 78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. You get $174,000 of our tax dollars every year. Your net worth is over $2 million. Stop playing games with our tax dollars rich boy!

Rep Massie, you are my favorite member of Congress. While I disagree with the funding and construction of a boarder wall, I really appreciate your willingness to point out the mass quantities of gov’t waste compared to the money needed for the wall. Keep up the good work!!!

To imply that $5 billion is nothing, is offensive to us taxpayers. He promised Mexico would pay for the wall; we all (minus the blindly-following base) knew that was BS; and that money can fix a lot: Flint water pipes, veterans’ services, pre-K for every child.

The federal government is not responsible for the state of Michigan’s water, especially not one town. You should support the ending of the wars. Also, it is not the federal government’s responsibility to subsidize education.

It’s still a waste of money. Why not take the Liberty, Constitutional approach to illegal immigration: expand LEGAL immigration and work permits, instead of wasting taxpayer dollars, confiscating property from landowners along the border, and disrupting water & grazing flows.
-
Because it's about more than the wall. It's about this administration's drive to prevent those who are not white from entering our country. The wall is just a means to an end.
-
Or... and, I know this is a wild take, but a country belongs to its citizens. Without citizens, there's no government, no country. Letting in every person that walks in isn't just stupid, it's insane. If you want to live in a shithole, move to one. There's plenty on this world.
-
So the Founding Fathers were insane? Because unless you were a slave, we basically had “open borders”. And no real restrictions on immigration until the Chinese Exclusion Act. And no quotas for everyone else until 1920.
-
I'm not sure why you're bringing up dead people. There certainly were restrictions on who could become a citizen. US is a country headed towards decline and internal conflict, in part due to mass migration; thus, loss of identity, trust, crime rates, and so forth.
-
We’re not talking about citizenship.

You passed a 42.4 BILLION Homeland Security FY17/18 budget with an additional 1.8 BILLION for “wall improvements”. You’ve spent .6% of that so far. Meanwhile, in reality world, the Border Patrol agents are now laid off. Good work Tommypic.twitter.com/Lhu4ku690X

Thomas, I’m one of those currently furloughed. My bigger concern is that we need to shrink that pie.

There are elected officials in DC that don’t give a rip about the safety of our country while criminals, drugs and undesirable diseases cross our southern border that could be kept out. Enough...
#fundthewallnow -
And yet these same officials would WANT us to keep criminals IN prisons with high, barbed-wire fences containing them. It just makes sense that every immigrant needs to be LEGAL.
