    I met with Skagway Mayor Carlson this past August & I was impressed by her dedication to her community. As a Skagway native & mother, Mayor Carlson was a spirited, focused & devoted public servant. Anne & I are praying for the Carlson family & the city of Skagway.

    I’ve fought for a long time to open the 1002 Area for oil and gas development &this is a critical step toward reaching that goal. Opening the 1002 Area will allow Alaska to be a leader in energy development so we can achieve energy independence for this nation.

    Wells Fargo has announced it will donate $250,000 to help with earthquake recovery efforts, according to a press release Wednesday. Nearly 75 percent of the donation will go to the Alaska Community Foundation to create a disaster recovery fund.

    Here is some helpful information from FEMA about aftershocks.

    : Expect aftershocks. These secondary shockwaves are usually less violent than the main quake but can be strong enough to do additional damage to weakened structures and can occur in the first hours, days, weeks, or even months after the quake.
