WHAT IS MOBILE PASSPORT CONTROL?
Mobile Passport Control (MPC) allows U.S. citizens and Canadian visitors to use the Mobile Passport app to expedite their entry process into the United States. It is the first app authorized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for eligible travelers with a smartphone or tablet to submit their passport information and answer CBP inspection-related questions prior to CBP inspection. Much like Automated Passport Control (APC), the app does not require pre-approval and is free to use. The app streamlines the traveler inspection process and enables CBP officers to focus more on the inspection and less on administrative functions.
HOW DOES MPC WORK?
Eligible travelers can download the Mobile Passport app from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Travelers will be prompted to create a profile via the app with their passport information. The profile includes the traveler’s name, gender, date of birth, and country of citizenship. Upon landing in the United States, travelers will complete the “New Trip” section by selecting their arrival airport and airline, taking a self-photo, and answering a series of CBP inspection-related questions. Once the traveler submits their transaction through the app, the traveler will receive an electronic receipt with an Encrypted Quick Response (QR) code. Travelers then bring their passport and mobile device with their digital bar-coded receipt to a CBP officer to finalize their inspection for entry into the United States.
WHERE CAN ELIGIBLE TRAVELERS USE MPC?
MPC is available to U.S. citizens and Canadian visitors at the following 26 U.S. international airports and 3 sea ports of entry:

Eligible travelers can download the Mobile Passport app from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
What are the benefits of using Mobile Passport Control?
Mobile Passport Control provides a more efficient in-person inspection between the CBP officer and the traveler. Since the administrative tasks are performed by the traveler prior to the passport control inspection, MPC reduces passport control inspection time and overall wait times.
When will I be able to submit my information to CBP using Mobile Passport Control?
Travelers will be able to submit their information upon landing in the United States.
Does Mobile Passport Control replace my U.S. passport?
No, travelers must present a valid U.S. or Canadian passport to a CBP officer upon arrival.
Will I still have to go through the processing lines if I use Mobile Passport Control?
Yes, travelers will still have to be processed by a CBP officer. Mobile Passport Control expedites the entry process and provides travelers with the option of using a specific processing lane.
Do travelers still have to fill out a declaration form?
No, travelers will answer questions electronically via their smartphone or tablet. CBP officers will verbally verify this information. If a traveler has already filled out a CBP declaration form, it can be given to a CBP Officer for shredding.
Who can use Mobile Passport Control?
U.S. citizens and Canadian visitors can use Mobile Passport Control. Travelers must have a smart phone that can connect to the Internet or mobile network.
Are Lawful Permanent Residents able to use Mobile Passport Control?
Not at this time, but CBP will announce expanded eligibility in the future.
Can families use Mobile Passport Control?
Yes, up to 12 additional profiles can be created for family members. The app allows for a single household to submit one MPC transaction, including answers to CBP inspection-related questions.
Is using Mobile Passport Control secure?
Yes, traveler’s passport information and answers to CBP inspection-related questions are submitted directly to CBP via secure encryption protocols. The information you enter on the app is securely transmitted to CBP which sends a response to the app generating the electronic receipt you show to the officer. The Mobile Passport app provides the option of storing your profile on your smartphone or tablet for future travel or deleting it after your trip.
Who developed the Mobile Passport App?
This first-of-its-kind app was developed in partnership with CBP by Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) and their technical partners.
What happens if my flight is diverted to a different airport?
Travelers will not be able to use Mobile Passport Control if their flight is diverted to a U.S. airport that does not have Mobile Passport Control processing. Upon arrival at the diverted airport, travelers will follow standard processing procedures.
Is Mobile Passport the only authorized app for mobile passport processing?
Yes, Mobile Passport is currently the only app authorized by CBP to submit your passport information using your mobile device.
