This Communicator’s Guide to the Dietary Guidelines is a resource to help you create nutrition education materials and messages for individuals, families, and other groups, based on the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
The Dietary Guidelines is written for policymakers and health professionals. As a health communicator, you are an important link between the evidence-based recommendations in the Dietary Guidelines and the needs of the individuals, families, and communities you serve. You are instrumental in making the recommendations “come to life” in a meaningful and action-oriented way.
The recommendations from the Dietary Guidelines are promoted by Federal staff as well as other private and public stakeholders. We can increase the reach of our messages if we collectively “speak with one voice.” Our impact will be greatest if we deliver consistent, accurate, and tailored messages that are complemented by supportive efforts in schools, worksites, and communities to make healthier choices easier.
