On January 20, 2015, Mike Stack was sworn in as Pennsylvania’s 33rd lieutenant governor and in that role serves as President of the Pennsylvania Senate. He also chairs the state Board of Pardons, the Local Government Advisory Commission and was appointed by Governor Tom Wolf to chair the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Council.
A graduate of the U.S. Armed Forces Officers Basic Course, Lt. Gov. Stack was a captain in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, the General Thomas J. Steward Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He later served as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) for the 28th Infantry Division and the 55th Stryker Brigade Combat Team.
In addition to his constitutional and appointed roles, Lt. Gov. Stack has focused on the concerns of Pennsylvania’s nearly one million veterans and their families. He chairs the Pennsylvania Military Community Enhancement Commission and he created the Lt. Governor’s Veterans Task Force to bring together various state agencies to help active duty soldiers and veterans returning to civilian life.
Lt. Gov. Stack took the same approach to create the “Pathways to Pardons” program, teaming experts in corrections and parole with addiction and recovery experts to help former offenders learn how to clear their records in order to obtain better employment and volunteer opportunities. He believes in second chances for Pennsylvanians who have earned that opportunity.
From 2001 to 2015, he served as a Senator in the General Assembly, representing Northeast Philadelphia’s 5th District and spearheading legislation to divest Pennsylvania Treasury investment from terrorist countries and to improve the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
Lt. Gov. Stack earned his law degree from Villanova University Law School in 1992. He is a graduate of LaSalle College High School and of LaSalle University.
