Kauai County Complete Streets Policy

The State of Hawaiʻi requires all counties to adopt a Complete Streets Policy (Act 54, Session Laws of Hawaii (SLH) 2009).  The County of Kauaʻi adopted a Complete Streets Policy (Resolution No. 2010-48) in September 2010.  The policy requires the County to ensure that roadway design and planning is balanced and equitable in accommodating and encouraging travel by bicyclists, public transportation vehicles and their passengers, and pedestrians of all ages and abilities.

The Planning Department is working with the Department of Public Works to implement the policy in the County's roadway and development standards, and through long-range plans.   The County also partners with the Built Environment Task Force of Get Fit Kauaʻi to develop and monitor policy implementation.
