Cost of Flood

This page provides important information to help National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policyholders, insurance agents and others understand letters all NFIP policyholders will be receiving each year, starting in January 2017.

Policyholders will receive the letters as notification that a review of their property's flood risk has been done. There will be an explanation of what was found and how the flood risk will impact what they pay for flood insurance. For some, having an Elevation Certificate (EC) may lead to lower flood insurance costs immediately or in the future.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO POLICYHOLDERS: BEFORE TAKING ANY ACTION IN RESPONSE TO THE LETTER YOU RECEIVED FROM FEMA, READ IT CAREFULLY AND SPEAK WITH YOUR INSURANCE AGENT OR INSURER.

Please do NOT send elevation certificates, flood insurance payments, or policy change information (including changes of address), etc., to FEMA. Instead, please discuss what's needed with your agent or insurer and send any agreed upon documents to them for processing.

If I decide to get an Elevation Certificate, what should I do with it?

Your flood insurance agent or company will help you process your EC so you can learn how it will impact what you pay for flood insurance in the near future, and long-term.
