APHIS International Services (IS) supports this mission in an international environment by: (1) collaborating with foreign partners to control pests and diseases before they can harm the U.S.; (2) facilitating safe agricultural trade; (3) ensuring effective and efficient management of internationally-based programs; and (4) investing in international capacity-building with foreign counterparts to build technical and regulatory skills that prevent the spread of damaging pests and diseases.

  • U.S. Salmon Eggs to South Africa

    Nov. 20, 2018 - APHIS and South African veterinary counterparts in the Department of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) concluded a health certificate for the export of U.S. salmon eggs (salmonidae ova) to South Africa. This action restores a market that has been inactive for 12 years, and is valued at $3 million annually

  • APHIS Opens Market for Bovine Embryos to Bosnia Herzergovina

    Nov. 20, 2018 - APHIS has concluded negotiations with Bosnia Herzegovina to open that country’s market to imports of bovine embryos from the United States. The estimated value of this trade accomplishment is $2 million per year.

  • APHIS Reaches Agreement with Taiwan on Reducing LPAI Restrictions

    Nov. 20, 2018 - Taiwan has accepted the U.S. request to reduce the zone of restriction during notifiable low pathogenicity avian influenza (LPAI) events from the State-level to the County-level.  This new agreement allows the continuation of market access for poultry meat, meat products, eggs and egg products during LPAI events within States experiencing an LPAI detection, provided these commodities are sourced from outside the affected County. Taiwan is the 5th largest export market for U.S. poultry meat, making this reduction in zoning widely celebrated amongst the poultry industry. U.S. exports of poultry meat, poultry meat products, eggs, and egg products to Taiwan reached $155 million in 2017.

  • APHIS Opens Market for Live Poultry and Hatching Eggs to Turkmenistan

    Nov. 20, 2018 -  APHIS has reached agreement with the Government of Turkmenistan on certification for the export of U.S. live poultry and hatching egg exports to the Central Asian nation. This marks the first bilateral agreement APHIS has reached with Turkmenistan and represents a significant step towards opening markets for other live animals and bovine genetics.  The estimated value of this new market is $10 million per year.
