Organization

The Children’s Bureau is headed by Associate Commissioner Jerry Milner who advises the Administration on Children, Youth and Families’ Commissioner on matters related to child welfare, including:

  • Child abuse and neglect
  • Child protective services
  • Family preservation and support
  • Adoption
  • Foster care
  • Independent living

The Children's Bureau recommends legislative and budgetary proposals, operational planning system objectives and initiatives, and projects and issue areas for evaluation, research, and demonstration activities. It also represents ACYF in interagency activities to initiate and implement projects affecting children and families.

Organization Structure

The Children's Bureau is also composed of eight divisions and teams. These groups work to support the mission of the Children's Bureau through various activities that promote safe and stable families.

Each ACF Regional Office has within it a Children’s Bureau child welfare unit. These offices may be contacted through the Regional Program Managers.
