About Grant Audits

The Department of Justice (DOJ) awards billions of dollars in grants and cooperative agreement funding each year, primarily from the Office of Justice Programs (OJP), the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), and the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). The DOJ Office of the Inspector General (OIG) conducts audits of these awards to ensure award recipients are complying with applicable statutes and are accomplishing the goals of the awards. The information below describes the lifecycle of a grant award audit. For more information, please consult the DOJ Grants Financial Management Guide.
