From November 24–25, Syrian Arab Republic Government (SARG) and Government of the Russian Federation (GoRF) airstrikes targeted armed opposition group (AOG)-held areas west and south of Aleppo city, marking the first aerial bombardment in northwestern Syria since the establishment of a de-militarized zone by the Government of Turkey (GoT) and GoRF in mid-September, according to international media. The airstrikes were reportedly in retaliation for an alleged AOG chemical attack on SARGcontrolled areas in Aleppo city on November 24; as of early December, the UN had not confirmed the use of chemical weapons.

Inaugurated in October 2017, the Supporting Entrepreneurial Education in Europe and Eurasia Project, implemented by Junior Achievement Europe, aims to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy, by developing and implementing programs for entrepreneurial education, financial literacy and work readiness. The project works with high schools, students, teachers, parents and other supporting organizations, business associations, financial institutions, lead firms willing to support entrepreneurial education in Macedonia. 

For over 60 years, USAID has partnered with the Government of Nepal (GON) to design and implement a variety of social and behavior change communication (SBCC) programs across the country. Under Nepal’s new federal structure, provincial and municipal level governments are now expected to lead local health programs. USAID introduced its Breakthrough ACTION Nepal Activity to identify and respond to SBCC gaps and opportunities in partnership with Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population and local government entities.  

Mashrou3i (“My Project” in Arabic) generates employment opportunities for young men and women in fourteen disadvantaged governorates of Tunisia by providing direct support to entrepreneurs through technical assistance, training, and business coaching, and by enhancing the capacity of local business support institutions.

Tunisia Jobs, Opportunities, and Business Success (JOBS) is a five-year activity to support smalland medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to create sustainable employment for Tunisians throughout the country. The project will deliver targeted firm-level assistance to businesses to accelerate growth and create jobs. Additionally, JOBS will improve the employability and skills of Tunisian job-seekers based on demand-driven enhancements of Tunisia’s vocational training system.

Fiscal Reform for a Strong Tunisia (FIRST) assists the Ministry of Finance to rationalize tax policy, modernize tax administration, and undertake other fiscal reforms to secure a sound fiscal foundation for economic stability and long-term growth. The project aims to help the Tunisian government improve revenue collection, reduce taxpayer compliance costs, improve the budgeting and expenditure process, and enhance public accountability.

The Tunisia Accountability, Decentralization, and Effective Municipalities (TADAEEM or “Consolidation”) Project supports the principle that an effective government that fosters collaboration between institutions and citizens will contribute to a more democratic and inclusive society. TADAEEM works with Government of Tunisia officials and other partners – especially at the local and regional levels – to help in developing more effective ways to provide public services, ensuring that essential amenities are provided in an inclusive, efficient and accountable manner.

Through work with Tunisian civil society and media organizations (CSOs), the Domestic Election Monitoring – Tunisia (DEMT) project helps to improve the integrity of Tunisia’s elections and associated procedures. Building on previous USAID assistance during the 2011 Constituent Assembly elections and the 2014 presidential and legislative elections, the project promotes capable citizen oversight of Tunisian elections and helps to lay the groundwork for greater citizen oversight of the performance of newly elected officials.

The Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development (CEED) assists in strengthening Tunisian businesses by developing, connecting and mentoring entrepreneurs so they, in turn, can create jobs and accelerate economic prosperity. This is done through two CEED project platforms: CEED Grow and CEED Go-to-Market. CEED Grow helps growth-oriented entrepreneurs who have already achieved market success to increase sales volume, expand their business network, and improve their market position. CEED Go-to-Market targets product owners and managers in established companies, as well as young entrepreneurs, to achieve their high growth aspirations in bringing products to global markets.
